I've had my X-Statik, X-Voce and X-LS Encore with Velodyne subwoofer setup since 2009. I love them and everyone who has watched movies and listened to music on this setup have enjoyed them as well. To each their own, but I've never regretted my purchase.

Fortunately people don't listen to measurements. We listen to music. I'd much rather listen to any R2R DAC than a D90. I do own a Topping DAC for my TV rig.

I don't really get the point of the test, off course one cable is not going to add any sounds. That would just be weird. Would this type of test measure, for instance, the depth of the soundstage, or space surrounding the instruments? I'm not saying it's wrong, just not sure a test like this would show up those elements?

I would want to test the Slew Rate of a Opamp (V/us) in a audio Circuit. Then I'll swap the Opamp and I want to see the difference.

You did a fantastic job explaining the measurements and potential workarounds in layman's terms.

This is flawed since people will take circuits literally. You don't need a circuit per se for current to flow, you need a difference in potential and a conductor. Induced noise vs protective earth is such a potential difference, and will drive current straight into ground if it's the path of least resistance. High frequencies also tends to prefer it while low frequencies like 50-60hz may go into a loop if allowed. If there's no loop around, induced current will indeed go into ground and not back into neutral because there's no reference point for it, other than protective earth ground. I'm mostly talking shielded cables here.

Very interesting as I have been using both the IFi one at the DAC end but couldn’t hear ANY difference so I pulled it out. But the Audioquest was a different matter. This fixed the problem with the usb cable. The cable was making horrible noises and rendering it unusable with my setup. But using the jitterbug made it usable. So whilst I agree that they don’t do anything. It did something. Don’t know what or why but it did. Wonder if you might know. Thanks.

I have come across so much snake oil BS when I was looking for my speakers. Audiophiles and their money are soon parted. I bet I could sell an ionizer for your room for $10,000 to them. Just tell them they must close the room up and run it for at least 2 hours before listening to your music. It will take all the floating dust out of the air and you will get nothing but pure soundwaves. Improves the detail and the soundstage will be so huge you would believe you were right there when the recording was done.

If you still believe these things do a difference after have watched your videos, you have to be stupid. What you say here is very true. You notice what you pay attention on. It’s like not paying attention to women walking around with their babies in strollers. Then it’s like they don’t exist. When you think about them and you focus on them, you see them everywhere. They were always there. It’s just that when you focus on them, you notice them and when you don’t focus on them, it’s like they don’t exist.

There you have the answer. The DAC altready filters the signal to the degree that another filter just won’t make any difference. The dac has already filtered the signal as much as it could ever be.

I for sure hear a difference in USB cables. I have listened to recordings with a few cables and listening back to back with the different tracks I can hear subtle differences between the cables. If I were to swap out cables and not have the recordings to listen to I would probably not hear it as much if at all. You tested to pretty low end cables here and I think you will see a bigger difference if you compared the basics against a $200 - $300 cable.

To paraphrase Mr Chow: "But did you die?" In this audiophile case: did you listen? Measured distortion is one part, listening is the other. You could, if you wanna, compare a hifi amplifier to a car engine. Pick 4 different engines with pretty similar torque & hp. They should perform more or less exactly like each other, right? Wrong. So many other parameters make up the result. They for sure perform different and sound different. I have a very nice hifi-system, I don't have a power conditioner, but I still do believe that they could be worth the sometimes high cost (Shunyata/Audioquest/IsoTek etc).

The logic is spot on, the measurement technique is also spot on. No surprises here that snake oil claims are based as you say solving an electronic/reproduction problem that doesn’t exist. And as always the solution is to buy ultra expensive fire hose cables with 19 layers of high tech shielding and a 12v battery! EFI and RFI may be an issue for ultra high gain phono stages - but not speaker cables.

Amir please test a piece of kit from Synergistic Research, please. Would love to know your results. Not sure how you could test their vibratron though 😁

Hello Amir, thank you, one comment please, calculate the voltage only is not accurate, need to calx the current with fast current prob 50Mhz min, I did it and current I mesure was in the range of 1A-2A peak... at normal listening volume. See my comment on Danny's website - I believe you are correct and Danny failed to prove anything to demonstrate his mains cable delivered claimed sonic improvements. I would have thought "flat earthers"were people who reject scientific facts - just like Danny who prefers to use sales favoured subjective arguments that ultimately fall apart when challenged.

Great to get an engineering perspective on USB cable performance. One again claims by the audio industry for sonic improvements for expensive USB cables are shot to pieces. I really appreciate the time you put into these videos to remove the smoke and mirrors used to flog over priced USB cables.

So much snake oil in the audio industry. Sales on 8K speaker cables might take a dive after people watch this video!

Great video Amir, thanks a lot. Quick question though, would cheap RCA cables be more susceptible to interference noise from e.g. power cables, power transformers that are close by? In other words, could the shielding be (far) worse?

Best MCH DACs? But my problem is how do know if such a DAC-before I buy it-will have sufficient output voltages to compensate for any gain loss from using software based room eq, like REW, DIRAC Live, etc??

sorry to say, a few years ago i bought an psaudio preamp containing their gain module. in listening tests, i found kind of "volume signal level modulated distortion", which i had never experienced with other manufacturers. Dealer accepted to return device. i will never ever buy anything from pee ess odiooh.

The dongle DAC I got from Amazon BLOWS the Dave out of the water. Plus it measures 32% better

Hi, I am the mastering engineer at 2xHD that did the transfer and mastering. The point of buying the DSD256 is to play it in DSD256. The DSD256 have no noise compare to lower DSD so the filter in the DAC that remove all that noise is very gentle. Important to know that if you analyze the analog output of a DSD DAC that noise that you taking about is not there because of the low pass filter. The resolution of 11.2.MHz sample every second really sound more sweet and close to the analog master compare to any PCM if you play it that right way. I did release also Jazz at the Pawnshop on Vinyl in all analog all tubes also on 2xHD. Rene Laflamme
